Agreed. Setting aside the whitewashing issue with how they cast the lead, I was stoked about the CGI animation of the robots, and the choice of “Enjoy the Silence” for the trailer felt like a splendid fit.

Then I tried to watch the final product, and I didn't even make it to the halfway mark--the pacing and presentation didn't grab me at all. So many missed opportunities.

I actually didn’t mind that movie. No, it isn’t good . But it is enjoyable.

The original Anime is so much better; yes. But I think they did a perfectly acceptable job translating the themes and action sequences to live action.

Casting choices aside, Scar Jo does just fine as The Major. And her being white is reasonably explained within the confines of the film. (That is not to say that I disagree with those who criticize the choice to cast her in the first place; they should have found someone Japanese to play that role, and it isn’t like there aren’t enough good Japanese actors who could have played that part.)

Also this car is my jam.

You should finish the movie. It’s worth it for the car chases. We watched Fast 8. This movie is not worse than that one...
